Former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson taught me a vital lesson the day he forgot his pen. He quoted this phrase passed down from his father. I’ll never forget it.
Maynard Jackson was the first African-American Mayor of Atlanta. He used to sit beside me (he was always late) during our required continuing education classes each year (he held an investment license). One night he forget his pen, so I lent him mine. He was somewhat embarrassed and recited this quote that his father used quite often with him. It's a great reminder to always be prepared.
